Myths About Autism

MYTH #1: We’re Unaware

The first myth I want to eradicate is that we autists are in our own little world.

Baloney!

If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard that, I’d be building autism-friendly communities around the globe.

We are right here, suffering through this beside you, so do not believe we can escape this chaos—yours or ours.  We cannot.

Do believe that we are doing everything in our power to combat the negative influences in this world that are constantly endeavoring to do everything they can to steal our peace, and yours.

MYTH #2: We’re Disconnected

The second great myth is that we autists are unable to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes.  In fact, we are constantly doing that throughout the entire day and night, so that we can save our sanity and yours as well.  That is key to our survival and to being sure we continue to do God’s will.

So don’t judge a book by its cover.  If we couldn’t empathize with others, we would surely all drown in self-pity.

The interesting thing is how few others can do that for us—but understandably, as they do not understand.

That is why I am here.  And why God has asked me to teach.
